Online Maryland Sports Betting Launch Sometime After Nov. 21
With SWARC (Sports Wagering Application Review Commission) starting their license review process on Nov. 21, Maryland online sports betting sites will likely go live in early Dec. at the latest.
Chairman of SWARC Tom Brandt commented that the commission will convene again on Nov. 21 and start deciding on approvals for qualified license applicants. Once SWARC approves a license, operators will be sent to the MLGCA for approval of their internal controls.

Licensed Maryland online sports betting operators must complete regulatory testing requirements and a successful controlled demonstration for Maryland Lottery and Gaming. This brings the timeline to late Nov. or early Dec. for online MD sports betting.
The official start date hasn’t been announced, and with a staggered approval process as opposed to a universal launch, the rollout of Maryland sports betting apps still comes with some uncertainty. Still, Maryland sports bettors can expect to start placing their first online wagers sometime after the Nov. 21 review.
SWARC Reviewing at Least Ten Online Sports Betting Applications
SWARC noted that it has received ten online sports betting applications so far, commenting “We expect a few more to come in, based on discussions…with representatives in the industry.”
The exact list of applicants hasn’t yet been revealed, however we do know that Caesars Sportsbook Maryland has already submitted an application, and other operators like DraftKings Sportsbook Maryland have started announcing that they’ll be online soon in the Old Line State.
Jim Nielsen of the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency said the commission will hold a hearing on 21 potential sports betting applications during a Oct. 27 meeting, noting ten applications will likely be from online operators, and ten more from new retail sportsbooks.
